One wind turbine could power a small town such as with 300 to 400 people.

However the larger the town the more wind turbines are needed and for a town such as a town with 1,300 to 2,000 people need between 4 to 5 wind turbines.

In some cases a wind turbine can withstand a tornado.

During really high wind speeds the wind turbine automatically shuts down to prevent damage to the wind turbine and to the electrical grid.

When the anemometer registers wind speeds higher than 55 mph (cut-out speed varies by turbine), it triggers the wind turbine to automatically shut off.

Tornadoes however can damage just about anything it wants including homes, buildings and yes wind turbines if the tornado reaches the wind turbine and decides to destroy it.

Most wind turbines that produce electricity will pay for themselves in energy production within 5 to 8 months.

However some wind turbine electric generators may take as long as 1 to 2 years to pay for themselves and most wind turbines have a lifespan of around 20 years before they need replaced.

But during those 20 years the wind generators would have paid for themselves many times over and made money for the energy companies which would be enough to purchase new wind turbines years later without need to get loans.

Electric Utility companies make millions of dollars per year from producing and selling electric energy and using wind generators is cheaper for them to make the electricity that people use and buy from the electric utility companies.

If you have a home wind generator then it may take 1 year to 2 years to pay for itself in energy savings depending on the size of wind generator you have.
