It is safe to take expired Lomotil although the longer it stays expired the less effective it can become.

There's no harm though in taking expired Lomotil but you may just need to up your dose slightly.

Lomotil cannot be bought over the counter since Lomotil is only available by prescription.

Your doctor must prescribe you Lomotil before you can get it.

You can also use Imodium which can be bought over the counter.

Lomotil and Imodium are not the same.

Although they work in similar ways, Lomotil can only be obtained with a prescription.

Imodium can be purchased over the counter.

Diarrhea should improve within 48 hours of starting Lomotil.

This means you should have firmer and less frequent stools.

If diarrhea hasn't improved within 10 days for adults or 48 hours for children, talk with your doctor.

When taking Lomotil drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, blurred vision, dry mouth, and loss of appetite may occur.

If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Drug interactions of Lomotil include monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO's) because the combination can cause severe high blood pressure with the possibility of a cerebrovascular accident (stroke).

Diphenoxylate is an antidiarrheal medication.

Lomotil is a combination medicine used to treat diarrhea in adults and children who are at least 13 years old.

Lomotil may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Lomotil (diphenoxylate and atropine) is a medication used to treat diarrhea, including cases of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D).

It's an oral medication that is available in tablet or liquid form.

Over-the-counter options for diarrhea include Imodium (loperamide) and Pepto-Bismol or Kaopectate (bismuth subsalicylate).

These are reasonable to use on occasion and have the great advantage of not requiring a doctor's prescription.
