It is OK to use expired anbesol but as it expires and gets older it becomes less effective.

So you may need to use a bit more anbesol to get the desired results and relief from the pain.

There's nothing unsafe about using expired anbesol as it will not harm you.

Anbesol is also known as benzocaine  which is used short term to relieve pain from minor mouth problems (such as toothache, canker sores, sore gums/throat, mouth/gum injury).

It is a local anesthetic that works by numbing the painful area.

Do not use this product for children younger than 2 years due to risk of serious side effects.

Benzocaine products are marketed under brand names such as Anbesol, Orabase, Orajel, Baby Orajel, Hurricaine, and Topex, as well as store brands and generics.

Anbesol Gel is for use only on the surface of your body, or just inside the mouth.

Avoid getting this medication in your eyes.

Avoid swallowing the gel while applying it to your gums or the inside of your mouth.

The throat spray or oral lozenge may be swallowed gradually during use.

In order to help numb the feeling in your tongue, try using products containing benzocaine, which is a topical anesthetic that is safe to use in your mouth.

Examples include Anbesol, Kank+a, Orabase B, Orajel.

You can also try using an anesthetic mouthwash as well.

Do not use more Anbesol Liquid than recommended as this may result in the active ingredients being absorbed into the body causing serious side effects, such as convulsions (fits).

Anbesol Adult Strength Gel is used for temporary relief of pain caused by recurrent mouth ulcers and denture irritation for adults and children over 12 years.
