When going on a long road trip you should pack a travel pillow, blankets, extra clothes, snacks, comfy shoes, USB phone charger, some toys or games for kids, extra clothing for kids, diapers and wipes for kids who are in diapers, although the wipes are also good for cleaning any age kid and even adults.

Also pack snacks such as fruit snacks, beef jerky, chips and some drinks.

If your kids are in diapers or you have a kid in diapers on the road trip you should pack more diapers than you think you need.

Also keep a few diapers in a spot with easy access such as in the glove box or in a container near where the kids car seat is.

You can change diapers easily in the trunk of the car if there's room or change them on the seat, or at a picnic table etc.

To prepare for long distance driving, pack snacks in your vehicle, pack wet wipes, keep extra oil, coolant and some tools in your vehicle that you may need.

Have your tires checked out and replace the tires if needed and check and replace your spare tire if needed too.

Also check your engine oil, transmission fluid levels and coolant levels as well before you set out on the road trip.

Inspect the belts and hoses to ensure they are also in good shape and replace if needed to avoid having issues on the road trip.

Before setting out on the road trip make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before as you need to be well rested to drive the long distance.

Take easy to eat snacks with you so you can snack on the road trip.

Stop often to stretch your legs and walk around and if you have kids allow them to get out to pee, use the toilet etc and run around too.

To make your long car ride more comfortable use some cushions on your seat such as the purple seat cushion, adjust your seat to a comfortable position, use correct posture in the seat, stop and get out more often to stretch your legs and get plenty of rest before the road trip.

If you're the passenger use a travel pillow and a pillow or soft item behind your back to help keep your back comfortable during the long car ride.

When driving on a road trip you should drive up to 400 miles to 500 miles per day.

If your road trip is only 400 to 500 miles then you can usually complete that road trip in one day but it's okay to make it a 2 day trip if you're tired of driving.

If the trip is 1,000 miles or more then you should drive no longer than 500 miles in one day and if it's longer than 1,000 miles trip such as a 2,000 mile trip then you may want to rest for one day and then continue on after a days rest.

When driving a long distance you should stop for a break every 1 hour to 2 hours and plan on resting for at least 30 to 45 minutes at each stop.

Although it's even better to stop every 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes when driving a long distance as driving long distances can make you easily tired and fatigued which is not good if you're the one driving.

Whenever I drive long distances I cannot drive any longer than an hour before I have to stop and rest for awhile.

I even try to stop at a gas station and top up the fuel tank even if it's still above a 1/2 a tank which not only gives me a chance to get out and stretch my legs but also ensures I always have fuel in the tank.

If you're feeling tired you should stop and it's also best to avoid driving longer than 500 miles in a day.

If I have to drive only 500 miles or less then I will usually try to complete the trip in one day.

If I have over 500 miles to drive I split that up in 2 days or longer depending on how far I have to drive.

As I get older driving long distances is also harder.

And if you are pulling a trailer or a travel trailer then you'll be even more tired pulling that thing behind you.

So you'll likely want to pull over more often if you are pulling a trailer or camper trailer behind you.

If you or your kids or someone needs to pee then you should also pull off and allow them or yourself to pee as it's never good to hold in your pee.
