In a day you can safely drive up to 9 hours in a day before you should pull over and rest.

When being safe with driving you can cover up to 500 miles per day with breaks in between the hours of driving.

Trying to drive longer than 500 miles in a day or more than 9 hours in a day by yourself is not a safe thing to do.

If you need to continue on your trip have another driver take over while you sleep.

When driving on a road trip you should drive up to 400 miles to 500 miles per day.

If your road trip is only 400 to 500 miles then you can usually complete that road trip in one day but it's okay to make it a 2 day trip if you're tired of driving.

If the trip is 1,000 miles or more then you should drive no longer than 500 miles in one day and if it's longer than 1,000 miles trip such as a 2,000 mile trip then you may want to rest for one day and then continue on after a days rest.

When driving a long distance you should stop for a break every 1 hour to 2 hours and plan on resting for at least 30 to 45 minutes at each stop.

Although it's even better to stop every 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes when driving a long distance as driving long distances can make you easily tired and fatigued which is not good if you're the one driving.

Whenever I drive long distances I cannot drive any longer than an hour before I have to stop and rest for awhile.

I even try to stop at a gas station and top up the fuel tank even if it's still above a 1/2 a tank which not only gives me a chance to get out and stretch my legs but also ensures I always have fuel in the tank.

If you're feeling tired you should stop and it's also best to avoid driving longer than 500 miles in a day.

If I have to drive only 500 miles or less then I will usually try to complete the trip in one day.

If I have over 500 miles to drive I split that up in 2 days or longer depending on how far I have to drive.

As I get older driving long distances is also harder.

And if you are pulling a trailer or a travel trailer then you'll be even more tired pulling that thing behind you.

So you'll likely want to pull over more often if you are pulling a trailer or camper trailer behind you.

If you or your kids or someone needs to pee then you should also pull off and allow them or yourself to pee as it's never good to hold in your pee.
