When someone has avolition they have a total lack of motivation that makes it hard to get anything done.

They can't start or finish even simple, everyday tasks.

Examples of avolition in schizophrenia might be the inability to care for personal hygiene or participate in work or recreational activities.

Positive symptoms are behaviors or actions that aren't generally seen in people who don't have schizophrenia, although they may be present in other psychiatric disorders.

Avolition is a treatable symptom, though.

A combination of therapy, medication, and lifestyle adjustments may help treat some of the conditions associated with avolition.

A person experiencing avolition may stay at home for long periods of time, rather than seeking out work or peer relations.

Avolition is an inability to initiate and complete goal-directed behaviour.

Avolition has been understood as a core symptom in schizophrenia, however, the drivers of it are unclear.

Some things that can cause Avolition include.

Bipolar disorder.
Persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia)
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PDD)
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Traumatic brain injury.
Alzheimer's disease.

Some ways to help with a lack of motivation are.

Break tasks in to manageable chunks.
Write down each positive thing you experience throughout the day.
Give yourself credit for the small things you do.
Have some 'me time'.
Be gentle with yourself.
Try to be present.
Attend helpful events.
Ask for help.
