The IRS can only forcefully collect back taxes owed for up to 10 years.

If the 10 years have passed and the IRS hasn't attempted to collect the back taxes owed to them then they won't be able to force you to pay back taxes after 10 years.

There's a statue of limitation on the IRS being able to collect back taxes.
