Flicking Lights does not raise your electric bill.
However flicking your lights can burn out your light bulb sooner.
If you're using LED Bulbs then flicking the lights on and off can shorten the life of the LED Bulb.
LED Bulbs use very little electricity and so you would not raise your bill by much even if the flicking the lights raised your bill which it does not.
The way we waste electricity is to turn on lights, use fans, leave electronics on etc when we are not using it.
That then causes us to use more fuels to create the electricity and those fuels once used up cannot be replaced for millions of years.
When you use energy such as natural gas, diesel, coal etc to create things such as electricity or waste the electricity then that fuel is no longer available.
The electricity that you used is gone forever and not available anymore either but you can generate more electricity with electric generators.
Energy isn't free.
So wasting energy is the same as wasting money – and we know that's not a good idea!
Wasting energy isn't good for the environment either.
Many of the energy sources we depend on, like coal and natural gas, can't be replaced once we use them up, they're gone forever.
It's not bad to waste electricity as electricity cannot actually be wasted.
Electricity cannot actually be wasted because more electricity can be generated.
So when you use up electricity there is still more electricity available as long as there's a generating source.
The electric generators are generating electricity non stop no matter if you use the electricity or not.
However although you cannot actually waste electricity you waste money by using electricity that you don't really need to use.
Electricity is generated by fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas and even nuclear reactors generate electricity.
Also hydro power generators use renewable water to help generate electricity and now there's even solar and wind generators.
So there's no need to worry about leaving a light on, a fan on, or any other electrical appliance or electronic on as there is much more electricity to come and available for years to come.
Electricity cannot actually be wasted.
Although you waste fossil fuels such as natural gas, diesel, or any other fuels that the generator uses to produce the electricity.
Most power plants use natural gas to power steam turbines to spin the generator to create the electricity.
The more electricity you use the more natural gas is needed to spin the generator as a generator needs to spin faster to generator more electricity.
If you have a portable generator and have it running and you turn on a light or a smaller power load the generator won't spin faster but when you increase the load on the generator the engine revs up higher which uses more gasoline or diesel fuel.
If the electricity is being generated by solar panels then the electricity cannot be wasted as it would be stored in batteries until you use it.
Wind generators create electricity through wind and so in that case when you're not using electricity the electricity is actually being wasted.
Other power plants use water flow and force of water for hydro power and that water is renewable so you would not be wasting electricity.
The generators are spinning regardless if you use the electricity or not so you should still use electricity that the generator is using.
