When you've inserted the menstrual cup properly the menstrual cup should not be painful.

You should not experience any pain while inserting the menstrual cup or while wearing the menstrual cup and if you do then something may be wrong.

Extremely sharp and painful cramps are a sign that the cup is touching or even suctioning to your cervix.

The small, flexible menstrual cup is made of silicone or latex rubber. Instead of absorbing your flow, like a tampon or pad, it catches and collects it.

Just before your period begins, tightly fold the menstrual cup and insert it like a tampon without an applicator.

Menstrual cups are pretty safe for most people but some people experience issues.

For some people, there's a chance the silicone or rubber material can cause an allergic reaction.

It may cause vaginal irritation.

A menstrual cup may irritate your vagina if the cup isn't cleaned and cared for properly.

It may also cause discomfort if you insert the cup without any lubrication.

Most menstrual cups can stay in for up to 12 hours before being emptied and rinsed.

This means you can wear one when you're sleeping, or all day long.

You may need to empty a cup more often if your flow is at its heaviest, but you can use the same cup for your heaviest and lightest days.
