If weeds are starting to grow around your plants you should remove the weeds when you first notice them before they get too big.
This way you won't have to use any weed killer around the plants unless you want too.
I think they make weed killer that will only kill certain weeds and not kill your plants so you might look into that kind of weed killer to kill off the weeds around your plants.
But best thing to do is remove weeds and roots of the weeds and then spray the area with weed killer that won't affect or kill off your plants.
