The most common cause of a car making a scraping noise when you drive are worn out brake pads.

Brake pads have a wear indicator on them that are meant to touch and scrape against the brake rotors when the brake pads are worn down.

This scraping noise is meant to alert you that your brake pads need replaced soon.

If you continue driving with the worn brake pads it can lead to brake rotor damage and also prevent you from stopping the vehicle properly.

So if you hear a scraping noise from your vehicle you should check the brake pads out and jack up the vehicle and spin each wheel to see if you hear the scraping noise.

If you hear the scraping noise from the wheel when turning the wheel by hand then it's likely your brake pads wear indicator causing the scraping noise.

Other things that can cause scraping noises from a vehicle are faulty CV joint, or transmission issues.

But most commonly the cause is worn brake pads.
