Getting too much heat from my wood burning stove and it's making the house too hot?

This is my first year of burning wood for heat in a wood burning stove in my house. I like the heat the wood burning stove gives off but the problem is it overheats the house and I can't get the temperature to lower?

How do I get just enough heat out of the wood burning stove and not get the house overheated?

If your house is getting too hot when using the wood stove then you might have to open a window slightly to cool the house down a bit.

Another thing you could do is try building a smaller fire and reload the wood stove a little at a time by having smaller fires.

Once you get the house temperature up then you can close the damper and cut the air supply to the stove.

Then if it gets cooler then you can open the damper back up and get the fire going again.
