What I do if I put a chainsaw away for the winter is run all the gas out of it, then I sharpen the chain up for next season, and clean any sawdust out of it.
I also inspect the sparkplug and if it needs replaced I replace it.
That's about all I need to do to my chainsaw and it's been ready for the next spring season of firewood cutting.
