Does electrical wire go behind insulation or does it go in front the insulation?

When wiring a house do you put the Romex electrical wire behind the insulation or do you put the Romex wire in front of the insulation?

It doesn't really matter. But I would go with putting the wire in front of the insulation should you ever need to replace the wire down the road.

Then you would be able to snake new romex through the wall easier.

But most likely you won't need to replace the wire ever again unless something happens to it such as overheating.
