Chicken Fried Steak is made with either cube steak or round steak.

Either cube steak or round steak will work just fine when making chicken fried steak at home.

Most restaurants use cube steak to make their chicken fried steak meals but some use round steak as it depends on the restaurant.

Chicken fried steak is also known as country-fried steak which is an American breaded cutlet dish that consists of a piece of beefsteak (most often tenderized cube steak) coated with seasoned flour and pan-fried.

The chicken fried steak is sometimes associated with the Southern cuisine of the United States.

It is also breaded and fried with a technique that is also similar to the more common fried chicken, hence "chicken fried."

Chicken fried steak also resembles the Austrian dish Wiener schnitzel and the Italian–South American dish milanesa, which is a tenderized veal or pork cutlet, coated with flour, eggs, chicken stock cube, and bread crumbs, and then fried. It is also similar to the recipe for Scottish collops.
