Is it normal for wood stove pipe to smoke

I just installed a new wood stove and I lit it tonight and the black pipe is smoking and giving off a funny smell.

Having smoke come off the black stove pipe and a smell is very normal for newly installed wood stove pipe.

The smoke should go away within 30 minutes at least and smell should go away within an hour. I just installed new black stove pipe myself as well yesterday and tonight I lit it up and got the same results.

I just open a window to let the smoke and smell out of the house and then it's been fine.

Brand new wood stoves will also smell for awhile until they're broke in.

Gonna need the stove going tonight it's supposed to get to 23 F with a feel of 18 F.
