If you don't allow your cars engine to warm up for at least a few minutes in the cold weather then you may cause bearing damage.

When your engine is cold the oil is also cold and thicker so it means that the engine oil cannot flow as freely through the engine to lubricate the bearings and other parts of the engine.

Once the engine oil warms up it flows much better through the engine so that it will be able to lubricate the engine bearings and other parts of the engine.

I have once spun a rod bearing on my truck before when I just started the engine and took off immediately and put my foot on the accelerator.

So now I allow the engine to warm up for at least 5 minutes before taking off.

Doing that also allows the heater to begin working.

So I start my truck or car and then go back inside and finish doing what I'm doing and by the time I'm ready the engine is warmed up enough.

It's not gonna use too much gas to allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes and it's cheaper than the engine replacement.

On older cars and vehicles with carburetors you had to always allow the engine to warm up for 5 or 10 minutes during really cold weather because the carburetor could not work properly without the engine being warmed up.

With the carburetors if you started the engine and then tried to take off immediately then the engine would usually die out.
