Check with the electric company itself and see if they have a program to help assist customers who can't pay there bills.

Some electric utilities collect donations from customers on their electric bills and then send the money to the Salvation army which helps distribute the money to qualifying people.

You have to prove you don't have enough money to pay the bill and sometimes you'll get the assistance.

You could also check with churches to see if they can help. Some will be able to help get your electric paid.

Keep in mind November 1st is just about here and starting November 1st the cold weather rule starts and then ends on March 31st.
The cold weather rule prevents utilities from disconnecting residential natural gas, electric and water utilities.

This doesn't mean you should just ignore the bill though. Call your electric company and work out payment arrangements and if you can at least pay something towards the bill. Otherwise the bill will be even harder to pay off the bigger the bill gets.
