My pilot light on my furnace will not stay lit after lighting it?

I'm trying to light my furnace pilot light and every time i light it and hold down the pilot lever the pilot stays lit until I release the pilot lever?

What's going on with my furnace that my pilot light won't stay lit?

Most likely the problem with your furnace pilot light not staying lit is your thermocouple going bad.

Or could also be your gas solenoid valve on the furnace where you push the pilot light button.

If you don't know much about natural gas appliances then I would get someone that does to fix it as if the furnace isn't fixed correctly then it could lead to a deadly explosion or carbon monoxide leak.
