Why can't we feel the time pass while we are sleeping?

When we're awake 8 or 10 hours can seem like a long time but when we're sleeping it only seems like we've been asleep maybe 1 hour but it doesn't seem like 8 or 10 hours have passed by?

The reason we don't feel the time passing during sleep is because we're unconscious when we're asleep and being unconscious we're unaware of our surroundings and what is going on.

So since we're unconscious we don't know that the time is actually passing by.
