My 4 year old son is still in diapers and shows no signs of wanting to use the potty.

He knows when he's wet and dirty because he will get the diapers and wipes and changing mat and tell me he needs to have his diaper changed.

I've tried taking him to the toilet when I take his diaper off to change his diaper but he refuses to use the toilet?

He'll be heading to kindergarten next year and he needs to be out of diapers.

How can I get my stubborn 4 year old to give up diapers and go to the toilet?

First off if you want to get him toilet trained then don't put the diaper back on him no matter what.
Get some underwear for him and have him wear the underwear instead.
He'll probably not like the feeling of poop or pee in underwear and will want to start using the toilet instead.

Whenever he has an accident or is starting to have an accident in his underwear rush him to the toilet and sit him on the toilet and tell him that's where he is to potty now.

He might scream and throw a huge fit but you must not give up. He needs to be potty trained soon and you just might have to put up with a tantrum until it happens.

He'll have accidents and when he does don't scold him for it just clean up the accidents and have him help you clean the accidents as well.

He'll eventually learn to use the toilet.
