CA is not a stop and ID State and there is no stop and ID law in California that requires you to produce ID upon request from the police.
However just like in other states if you're stopped while driving a motor vehicle or a motorcycle then you must produce your driver's license but the passengers do not have to show ID to the police.
If you're walking down the street, riding a bicycle etc you do not have to show your ID or drivers license to the police.
However if the police suspect you have committed a crime then you are required to produce ID.
Unlike some other states, the state of California does not have a “stop and identify” statute that makes it a crime to refuse to identify yourself to the police.
This means that you do not have to show police your identification unless you are being lawfully detained or arrested.
If you're being lawfully detained or arrested then you must produce ID.
