Electric utility transformers explode due to overheating, and overloading.

During the summer months millions of Air conditioners are running and these power hungry air conditioners overload the electric grid and transformers can explode and catch fire.

Electric pole transformers also explode due to things shorting them out such as animals or tree limbs coming into contact with the transformer.
