The future outlook for a phlebotomist is very good and is set to grow rapidly from now until 2031.

Between now and 2031 there will be around 21,500 job openings for a phlebotomist a year.

The hardest part of being a phlebotomist is working with fearful and anxious patients.

A lot of people have a fear of needles or blood which can make their interactions with phlebotomists very challenging and it requires patience, excellent communication skills and empathy to help the patients they are drawing blood from.

A phlebotomist draws as many as 12 patients in one hour.

A phlebotomist should draw blood from a patient one to two times but not more than two times in one visit.

After two attempts of drawing blood that are not successful then they should notify a nurse or doctor.

The starting annual salary for a travel phlebotomist is between $32,879.00 to $40,967.00

The length of time it takes to become a phlebotomist is 40 hours to 80 hours of in class hours and then 20 to 40 hours of clinical hours which take place after completion of the class, usually at a lab or medical institute joined with the program.

If you find a facility that offers on-the-job training, you can become a phlebotomist right away.

However, most employers prefer to hire those who have gotten their phlebotomist certification which typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Some in-person phlebotomy programs take a little longer, usually up to 12 weeks.

The starting salary for a phlebotomist is $17.08 an hour but can later go up to $24.45 an hour.

The starting yearly salary for a phlebotomist is $32,584.00 a year and can go up to $40,401.00 a year.

Being a phlebotomist is not all that hard but it does require lots of training and practice.

Phlebotomists will learn a lot on the job and will get better as they gain more experience drawing blood.

The phlebotomist may be difficult for individuals who are sensitive to the sight of bodily fluids.

The state of California offers phlebotomists the highest average salary in the U.S. at $48,070.00, above the national average of $37,380.00 but below the average for all other occupations in the state of $68,510.00
