Bacteria does have integrins as well as a variety of pathogens, viruses and fungi.

Several pathogenic bacteria are also able to bind integrin receptors directly via some specific adhesins.

Integrin is found in blood platelets and a variety of cells and the integerins bind several matrix proteins which also include fibrinogen.

The platelets interact with fibrinogen during blood clotting and humans with Glanzmann's disease that are genetically deficient in integrins, bleed excessively.

There are 24 different integrins which include 18 subunits and 8 subunits that generate 24 different integrins.

The cells that express integrin are all nucleated cells of multicellular animals and are essential for cell-matrix adhesion and, in vertebrates, cell-cell interactions.

Integrins are activated by cytoplasmic tail ligands.
