The ideal temperature to keep your home during the winter months will depend entirely on yourself and your family.
Keep the thermostat set at a good comfortable temperature so that you're not freezing or too hot in the house.
My thermostat when home is set at 68 F which is good enough for me and my family and when we're asleep the thermostat goes down to 60 F which is warm enough for us at night and we save money on our natural gas bill during the winter.
When no one is home during the day I turn the furnace thermostat down to 50 F which lowers the heating bills even more and also keeps the house above freezing so the pipes don't burst.
