A breakaway collar is a collar for cats that is designed to release should the cat get stuck with it's collar in something.
So if the cat gets caught by it's collar by something and would normally be stuck with a regular cat collar the breakaway collar will "like it's name implies" breakaway and allow the cat to break free from whatever was keeping the cat stuck.
