Tricare pays for circumcision when it's done during the newborn ages of 0 to 30 days of age.

After 30 days of age circumcision is not covered by Tricare or other health insurance unless it's medically necessary.

Circumcision is surgical removal of the skin covering the tip of the penis.

The circumcision procedure is fairly common for newborn boys in certain parts of the world, including the United States.

Circumcision after the newborn period is possible, but it's a more complex procedure.

Circumcision can be done at any age.

Traditionally, the most common time to do it is soon after your baby is born, or within the first month of life.

Because the process is painful, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area and the surgery is performed while the baby is still awake.

Pain is mild to moderate after circumcision in adults under general anesthesia with an intraoperative penile block.

Severe pain is rare and mostly related to complications.

Younger patients generally have more discomfort.

Common complications of circumcision include hemorrhage (35%), wound infection (10%), meatitis (8-20%), and UTI (2%) respectively.

Opening of the wound, insufficient removal of the foreskin, skin bridges and inclusion cysts, amputation of the glans penis, sepsis, phrenulum breve, and buried penis are rarely seen.
