Why did my push mower blow a hole through the side of the engine?

I have a gasoline push lawnmower that I've only had for 3 years now and it's been running and working fine.

This morning when mowing the grass I got halfway through the yard and a hole blew through the side of the aluminum lawn mower engine and oil shot out everywhere?

What could've caused my lawn mower engine to blow a hole through the side of the engine?

What happened is your engine seized up due to lack of lubrication and threw the piston rod.

This can happen when the engine doesn't get enough oil to keep everything moving smoothly.

When you're done mowing with your new mower be sure to pull the dipstick and check the oil level and if it's low add a little at a time until it's full again but just don't overfill the engine oil on the mower because it can cause problems as well.

It can also happen even if you do keep the oil topped up if something goes wrong with the oil mechanism in the lawn mower engine that keeps the oil on the parts.

Your lawn mower is likely not worth fixing so you'd be be better off to buy a new mower.
