Phase 1 of the elimination diet lasts for around 2 to 3 weeks.

Foods you can include in phase 1: Fruits: blueberries, melon, kiwi, and other low FODMAP fruits excluding citrus.

Vegetables: low-FODMAP vegetables excluding nightshades.

You will eat only these foods for 2-3 weeks.

You do lose some weight on an elimination diet and doing the elimination diet can also help you with discovering food allergies and food intolerance's as well.

However just be aware that the elimination diet is not a diet that is meant to lose weight.

An elimination diet isn't about losing weight … but there are benefits.

An elimination diet is a great way to identify foods you're allergic or sensitive to, but it's not a “quick fix” or a long-term solution for weight loss.

The Whole30 diet is a 30-day elimination fad diet which consists of and emphasizes eating of whole foods and the elimination of sugar, alcohol, grains, and dairy.

The traditional Whole30 also eliminates legumes and soy, while a plant-based version of the Whole30 allows consumption of those food groups.

Foods you can eat on the Whole 30 diet are.

    All vegetables, including potatoes.
Fruit, including strawberries, watermelon, apples, oranges, and bananas.
Seafood, such as fish, oysters, shrimp, and mussels.
Unprocessed meats, including beef, chicken, and pork.
    Nuts and seeds.
    Eggs.
    Olive oil and coconut oil.
    Black coffee.

Foods you cannot eat on the whole 30 diet include.

Dairy. This means no cheese, cow milk, yogurt, cream, sour cream, kefir, and butter.
Grains. This means no corn, rice, quinoa, wheat, rye, millet, sorghum, amaranth, buckwheat, bulgur, or sprouted grains.
    Alcohol.
    Legumes.
    Added Sugar.
    Carrageenan, MSG, and Sulfites.
    “Junk” Food.

If you're consuming fewer calories than you usually do while following the Whole30, as well as cutting out a lot of processed foods, alcohol, and added sugars and instead eating lean protein, fruits, and veggies, it's very likely that you will lose weight.

Generally, the Whole30 average weight loss amount is around 10lbs for those who have stuck with the Whole30 program for the full 30 days.

Of course this won't be the same for everyone – some will lose a bit more or a bit less.

But after a 30-day wonder diet like Whole30, it's likely weight will return if you don't follow a few rules.

Keeping the weight off is a matter of adding foods back into your diet with moderation and balance.

Whole30 is essentially a consumer-friendly version of an elimination diet that cuts out potential food sensitivities for 30 days, as well as drastically decreases inflammatory food intake and increases key anti-inflammatory foods like fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids.

It can take several weeks before you learn to trust the “hungry” and “full” signals your body is sending you—and you may not have been eating enough in the beginning, because you were afraid of all that fat.

Many Whole30'ers report that they didn't feel or see “the magic” until day 45, 60, or beyond.

In the Whole30 book, it's explained that you don't feel good until around day 14, but the beginning is not for the faint of heart; don't think you're going to immediately feel like a million bucks because your eating is better — it takes time.
