Answered: Can my 13 year old babysit my 5 year old?

Your 13 year old can babysit your 5 year old legally in most places, although it also depends on your 13 year old's maturity as well as local laws and the length of time the babysitting is occurring.

If your 13 year old is mature enough and stays calm and knows how to call for help in an emergency and they have good common sense and don't get distracted easily by friends or phones and the 5 year old listens to them and behaves well then they can likely babysit the 5 year old just for awhile.

It's also a good idea for the 13 year old to take a local first aid or babysitting safety course although it's not required.

Most places don't have any strict legal age for babysitting, although you as a parent are always legally responsible for the safety of both children.

And some local child welfare agencies have guidelines that also suggest teens under age 14 should not watch young children for long hours or overnight.

If allowing your 13 year old to babysit your 5 year old, you should begin with just short trips away like 30 minutes to 60 minutes, while you remain close by.

And make sure that your 13 year old also knows basic safety as well as emergency phone numbers and how to handle any choking or fire risk or other emergencies.

And avoid leaving your 13 year old alone with your 5 year old for long stretches of time until you're entirely sure they can handle the responsibility.

I used to babysit my 5 year old brother for a few hours at age 13 and I was just fine but not all 13 year old's are ready to babysit but some are.

If you don't think your 13 year old is mature enough to babysit your 5 year old, you should hire someone else as a babysitter or if you have your 13 year old babysit your 5 year old, you could also if possible have a trusted neighbor check in on them to be sure they are okay.

Answered: Can a 14 year old stay home alone overnight in Arkansas?

A 14 year old can stay home alone overnight in Arkansas as Arkansas has no actual specific legal minimum age requirement for leaving your child home alone, which includes overnight.

Although as a parent, you're still legally responsible for the welfare of your child in Arkansas and child welfare agencies and even law enforcement can still intervene and file neglect charges on the parents if the child is left unattended without adequate maturity or is in unsafe conditions.

As a 14 year old in 2002 I was left home alone in Arkansas for a week, while my parents went out of state to a family gathering.

However I was mature enough and even a law enforcement officer just stopped by to check on me after someone reported it and he said that since I was mature enough that I was okay.

I could cook for myself safely, dress myself, shower and keep the house clean and knew how to contact my parents and emergency services if needed.

But it can vary from child to child and how much you trust them as not all 14 year old's could be left alone that long.

Under 14 I certainly wouldn't leave a child home alone longer than overnight and not for a week.

But with Arkansas, state law doesn't set a distinct age threshold for staying home alone during the day or even overnight.

Prosecutors and police in Arkansas evaluate the cases based on whether a parent had exercised reasonable judgement regarding the child's safety and well being.

Most general child welfare and parenting guidelines also advise against overnight unsupervised stays until mid to late adolescence which is often ages 15 to 18 due to the extended duration and unexpected emergencies that could occur.

And so deciding on if a 14 year old is ready to stay home alone overnight depends heavily on the 14 year old's individual maturity, ability to handle crisis situations, their access to a reliable phone and their comfort level.

Answered: Can a 12 year old decide which parent to live with in Arkansas?

No, a 12 year old cannot decide which parent to live with in Arkansas.

In Arkansas, there's no magic age that a child gets to make the choice of which parent to live with.

Instead, Judges in Arkansas make the custody decisions on which parent the 12 year old or any other minor child gets to live with, based strictly on the best interests of the child.

When it comes to child custody and who the 12 year old or any other child can live with the court goes by many factors, which includes the child's maturity, guardians ad Litem and judge interviews.

A 12 year old's opinion is heard by the courts, but the child's opinion is not the final word when it comes to custody and who they get to live with.

The judge weighs the 12 year old and other child's opinion alongside of other family dynamics.

The court also looks at why the 12 year old wants to live with a specific parent and in a specific home.

Logical and mature reasons also carry more weight than just surface preferences.

And courts often use a Guardian ad Litem, which is an attorney representing the child to talk to the child and report the child's wishes to the judge.

And a judge may also talk privately with the 12 year old or older children, but the child or children still do not get to make the actual legal choice on who they can stay with.

Other factors that the judge considers in who the child or children get to stay with include stability, relationships, environment and parental conduct.

Parental conduct that the judge considers includes protection from conflict or one parent turning the child against the other.

The environment that is considered includes the school districts, health needs and home continuity.

Relationships that the judge considers are how strong the bond is with each parent between the child or children and stability involves which home offers a steady and safe routine for the child.

Answered: Is it okay to put a 7 year old boy in Luvs size 8 diapers during the day for wetting his pants?

It's okay to put a 7 year old boy in diapers during the day for wetting his pants, but it shouldn't be a punishment.

However having your 7 year old son wear a diaper when he's wetting his pants can help keep his pants dry and keep furniture and carpets dry as well and protect his health.

Still if you put your 7 year old son in diapers for wetting his pants, he should also see his pediatrician to rule out any medical issue although it's also common for some 7 year olds and younger to wet their pants from simply being too busy with play and ignoring their bladder.

Parents Choice also comes in a size 8 diaper that would fit a 7 year old boy as well and they are also good for bed wetting as well.

Answered: Is the Santa Clause ok for a 7 year old?

Santa Clause or Santa Claus is OK for a 7 year old as that is a perfect age for believing in Santa Claus, although some kids stop believing in Santa by then or before then, but some kids may continue to believe in Santa Claus past that age.

Most kids stop believing in Santa Claus by the ages of 8 to 10 years old, or roughly around the 3rd grade to 5th grade.

The disbelief in Santa Claus often happens gradually as children begin to notice the logical inconsistencies like travel times and chimneys and also recognize the handwriting on gifts or even hear any doubts from older peers at school.

Although there's no actual single "correct" age that a child has to stop believing in Santa Claus as every child also develops their critical thinking skills at their own pace.

I actually stopped believing in Santa when I turned 5 years old as I could understand that there's no way that he could get down a chimney or make the trip around the world in one night.

But my sister continued to believe in Santa Claus until she was 11 and so it can vary.

The belief in Santa Claus can vary from child to child but the belief in Santa Claus often goes as follows:

Ages 3 to 5, the child often has pure, magical belief in Santa Claus.

Ages 6 to 8, children often have a strong belief in Santa Claus, but the first real questions about the logistics often begin to surface.

And ages 9 to 10, children often start having active questioning, with many kids figuring out the truth on their own about Santa Claus and hear it from classmates.

I personally never told my kids that Santa was real and instead told them the truth from the beginning as I don't like lying to them even though it can seem innocent.

I told my kids from the start that Santa Claus is a magical person that is just make believe and that it can be fun to think of him as being real, but in reality he doesn't exist.

Answered: Is 11 too old for Easter?

11 is not too old for Easter although some kids may stop hunting Easter eggs by age 10, but some kids continue to enjoy Easter and Easter egg hunting until age 12 and some do longer and then again some kids may decided to stop hunting Easter eggs before age 10.

Even if they don't hunt Easter eggs the 11 year old and older kids may still enjoy Easter itself.

The age when kids should stop Easter egg hunting is generally between the ages of 10 to 12 years old.

After the ages of 10 to 12, most kids grow out of Easter egg hunting naturally on their own, or even some public Easter egg hunting events might have age limits.

Although there's no real strict age limit and rules on Easter egg hunting when you're doing it as a family and man families also adapt to the tradition and keep older kids and teens involved.

Most community, church and municipal Easter egg hunts place an age limit of around 10 years old to 12 years old, to prevent older children from towering over and out competing younger kids and toddlers.

To keep teenagers and older kids engaged in Easter egg hunting, many people often will level up the difficulty by hiding the Easter eggs with higher stakes like using fake eggs containing cash, gift cards or clues to a larger prize.

I was 10 when my parents stopped hiding Easter eggs to hunt for myself.

However my parents continued to hide Easter eggs for my siblings and cousins to hunt when they were younger but I just stopped having interest in hunting Easter eggs when I turned 10 years old.

Although I did still get an Easter basket with candy and gifts in them well past 10, which I still enjoyed, but the Easter egg hunt part I just grew bored of.

You can hunt Easter eggs no matter what you're age, but some kids grow out of it and stop on their own by age 8 to 10 years old and some continue and some kids might stop hunting Easter eggs earlier as it depends on the kid.

Answered: What is the 3 6 9 12 rule for kids?

The 3 6 9 12 rule for kids is a developmental framework that was created by a French psychiatrist named Serge Tisseron.

The 3 6 9 12 rule for kids helps parents pace and manage their children's exposure to screens.

The guidelines with the 3 6 9 12 rule for kids, state that there are no screens before age 3, no personal gaming consoles before age 6, no unsupervised internet before 9 and no social medial before age 12.

When a child is under 3, there should be no screens as a child under 3 needs to discover their environment through real world, sensory play, instead of screens.

Early exposure to screens can negatively impact their sleep, language development and parent child attachment.

However video calls with distant family members are generally acceptable.

And it's still okay for a child under 3 to watch some television.

Between the ages of 3 to 6, they should have no personal consoles as children these ages of between 3 to 6 can engage with technology, but screens at these ages should be used sparingly, mainly as a shared activity with family.

Avoid giving kids between ages 3 to 6, their own personal portable video game consoles as they can easily absorb their focus and hinder their motor skill development.

Between the ages of 6 to 9, they should not use the internet unsupervised.

Children between the ages of 6 to 9 can use the internet and be introduced to computers as well as digital games, but they should be used to create something, instead of passively consume.

Children between the ages of 6 to 9 should not have free reign of the internet without parental accompaniment as well as supervision.

And although children between the ages of 9 to 12 may beg for a smartphone or a social media profile, their brains are also not developed enough yet, to handle the dangers, pressures and permanence of the online world.

And so internet at the ages of 9 to 12 should be heavily regulated and restricted.

Answered: At what age do you stop doing Easter baskets for kids?

The age that many people stop doing Easter Baskets for kids is often between ages 10 to 12 years of age.

Although there's no official cut off age that you have to stop doing Easter Baskets for kids and even some adults like to get them as well.

Many families will continue the tradition of giving out Easter Baskets well into the child's teenage years and even into adulthood.

And some parents will adapt the Easter Basket Content's as the child grows.

By ages 10 to 12, you can transition away from Easter Baskets with toys and excessive candy and instead place art supplies, books, movie tickets or spring clothing, although it's still okay to add candy or use candy in the Easter Basket or toys that the child will still love.

And by ages 13 to 18, many parents also shift to teen focused gifts and treats in the Easter Basket like skincare products, gift cards or even an Easter gift bag.

And by 18 and over, you can scale back to a small bag of their favorite chocolate or care packages.

My kids and even my sister still loves getting an Easter Basket with candy and fake eggs with candy in them and sometimes I'll put a bit of money in the fake eggs as well.

The age that kids quit believing in the Easter Bunny is usually between the ages of 8 years old to 10 years old.

Although some children or kids might stop or quit believing in the Easter Bunny as early as age 6 to 7 years old.

It can vary from child to child.

I personally quit believing in the Easter Bunny when I was 6 and my brother he quit believing in the Easter Bunny by age 8.

My daughter still believes in the Easter Bunny and she's 10 now.

But my son who is 5 no longer believes in the Easter Bunny.

So it can be highly variable from child to child on when they stop believing in the Easter Bunny.

And even though my son no longer believes in the Easter Bunny at age 5, he still likes to hunt and gather Easter Eggs and still has fun with the Easter Bunny, even though he knows that it's someone dressed up as the Easter Bunny.

So it's still a fun time for him and so kids can still hunt Easter Eggs and have a fun time with the Easter Bunny even if they don't believe in him being real or not.

By age 6 to 8, a child's critical thinking skills improve and they usually start asking logical questions, on how a bunny visits every house or delivers eggs, although my son started questioning this before he was 5.

And by ages 8 to 10, most kids also piece together clues or hear the truth about the Easter Bunny from older classmates or even siblings around 8 to 10.

And it's also very common for older kids to pretend to believe in the Easter Bunny as they don't want to ruin the holiday magic or they are worried it might affected their Easter Baskets.
