It is normal for babies to have explosive poop and it's nothing to worry about.

Suspect diarrhea if the stools suddenly increase in number or looseness.

If it lasts for 3 or more stools, the baby has diarrhea. If the stools contain mucus, blood, or smells bad, this points to diarrhea.

Other clues to diarrhea are poor eating, acting sick or a fever.

Especially during the first few weeks or month of life the baby can have explosive poop which can lead to diaper blowouts where the poop comes out the back of the diaper and gets all over the babies back and clothes.

The diaper that is best for diaper blowouts is Huggies Snug and Dry.

Pampers Cruisers and Pampers Baby Dry are also good diapers for diaper blowouts.

Huggies Little Snugglers Diapers are also good for blowouts.

Huggies Little Snugglers is another good diaper for blowouts up the back.

Some parents have noticed though that it seems to work well with poop but not so much with pee.

Nevertheless, it's the top highlighted feature of Huggies Little Snugglers.

Toddlers do occasionally have diaper blowouts but it's more common with newborns and young babies.

My 2 year old has had diaper blowouts when he diarrhea before although it was not as bad as it was when he had them as a newborn.

To prevent blowout diapers be sure you're using a big enough diaper for your baby.

Too small of diapers can lead to diaper blowouts as the poop has not much room to be contained in the diaper so it leaves out the back of the diaper.

Also try changing your baby more often and even put a paper towel or napkins down the back of the babies diaper and stick it up above the back of the diaper by a few inches or so.

However even then diaper blowouts are gonna happen no matter what you do to prevent it.

Blowouts can mean the diaper is too small.

When the diaper is too small then there's not enough room for the babies poop to be contained and so it comes up the back of the diaper.

Also diapers that are too snug on the back can lead to diaper blowouts.

The diaper needs to sag a bit between the legs to allow some room for poop to be contained so try a slightly bigger diaper on the baby if it seems too tight.

The best way to change a blowout diaper is to remove the diaper and clothes as normal.

Then bathe the baby in the bathtub to clean them off as baby wipes won't be enough to clean all that poop off their back etc.

After a diaper blowout a bath or showering them down with the shower wand is a good thing to do.

If it happens away from home then wipe them down as good as you can and use washcloths if possible.

The age at which most babies have the most blowouts is 10 days to 14 days old.

However diaper blowouts can occur and continue at any age although most often diaper blowouts stop around age 1 but there have been times my own now 3 year old has had diaper blowouts at age 2 and even now at age 3 when he has diarrhea but it's less common now.

It is normal for babies to have diaper blowouts everyday and sometimes the baby may also be having diarrhea everyday for a few days or so which is normal.

However if the diarrhea continues for longer than a few days you should take the baby to see the doctor to be sure they are okay and not being dehydrated.

Many babies will poop with vigour, leading to diaper blowouts.

What distinguishes normal bowel movements from diarrhea is the frequency.

Many newborns will poop 10 to 15 times a day.

If your baby is suddenly going many more times than usual, it is considered diarrhea.

Diaper blowouts are very common and eventually all babies who wear diapers will have a diaper blowout at least a few times in their life of wearing diapers.

Diaper Blowouts are normal and happen to all babies eventually.

Most often diaper blowouts happen with disposable diapers but even cloth diapered babies sometime experience diaper blowouts.

Blowout diapers are when the baby poops so much that the diaper cannot contain the poop.

Then the poop comes out the back of the diaper and sometimes the leg gathers of the diaper.

When your baby has a diaper blowout they usually are having explosive poop that comes out so fast that the diaper being against their butt is not enough room for the poop so it shoots out the back of the diaper and gets all over their back and clothes.

Diaper blowouts can be a result of diapers that are too small or sometimes a bit too big.

Proper fitting diapers are best to prevent diaper blowouts.

If your baby is having diaper blowouts try putting a few paper towels or napkins down the back of the diaper and extend the paper towel or napkin about 3 to 4 inches or so above the diaper waistband.

This has worked for my babies when they had blowouts from explosive poop.

Diaper blowouts tend to happen at the back of the diaper where it is hard to create a seal.

In many cases blowouts happen because of the wrong size diaper or diapers that aren't fully snug on the baby.

It can be hard to ensure a good diaper fit when changing a wriggly baby!

To help prevent diaper blowouts change your baby's diaper frequently.

A diaper blowout is more likely to occur when it's too full.

Put the diaper on securely.

Not too tightly just snugly enough to reduce gaps where poop can escape.
