Doctors look at your fingernails because the color of your fingernails underneath can be an indicator of health conditions such as liver disease, fatty liver, heart conditions etc.

When most of us look at our hands, we might notice that we need to trim, clean, or stop biting our fingernails, and that's about it.

However if you ask a dermatologist, they can see a whole lot more.

Everything from poor diet and stress to serious kidney problems can be revealed by a glance at your fingernails.

The 5 common nail problems include brittle nails, onycholysis, paronychia, psoriasis and onychomycosis.

Lindsay Nails will look like or appear as white coloring of the proximal half nail and a red-brown coloration of the distal half of all the nails.

Terry's nails are a nail disease or onychosis which is a disease or deformity of the nail.

A fatty liver can cause Terry's Nails to occur.

The progression of liver disease and cirrhosis have a multitude of extrahepatic manifestations.

These findings include spider angiomata, Terry's nails, palmar erythema, hepatosplenomegaly, jaundice, scleral icterus, and caput medusa.

Terry's nails can sometimes be attributed to aging. In other cases, Terry's nails can be a sign of a serious underlying condition, such as liver disease, congestive heart failure, kidney failure or diabetes.

Terry's nails is a physical condition in which a person's fingernails or toenails appear white with a characteristic "ground glass" appearance without any lunula.

The condition is thought to be due to a decrease in vascularity and an increase in connective tissue within the nail bed.

Although the abnormality can occur with normal aging,

Terry's nails can also be an indication of an underlying medical condition, most notably, cirrhosis, chronic renal failure, and congestive heart failure.
