Yes you can still call the operator to get a phone number from them.
When you call a telephone operator for getting a phone number you're calling in for directory assistance.
Most directory assistance charges a small fee for the assistance.
You can call 411 on your telephone to get an operator and if you have the name and address of the person you want to call and the persons number is listed then the telephone operator can usually find the phone number for you.
On the landline phone you can still dial 0 for an operator which I've done and gotten directory assistance.
When I called an operator on my landline by dialing 0 there was no charges and the operator was able to get the phone number for me.
So on a cellphone you usually dial 411 for an operator but sometimes dialing 0 also works and on a landline you still dial 0 for the operator.
