After having your stomach pumped you usually stay in the hospital for 30 minutes to an hour.

You'll need to stay in the hospital for 30 minutes up to a few hours so that your doctor can keep an eye on your condition and your vital signs, such as your heart rate and breathing, until they feel that you're ready to go home.

Unless you had a sedative and in that case you may need to stay in the hospital for a few hours or so until the sedative wears off some.

The way the doctors pump your stomach for alcohol poisoning is the stick a long tube down your throat and into your stomach.

The tube is attached to a syringe like tool which they use which creates suction to draw the alcohol out of your stomach and into a bag.

Instruments used when performing a gastric lavage, commonly referred to as "pumping the stomach."

Plastic tubing is inserted into the patient's mouth, down the throat and into the stomach.

Syringe removes foreign material from the stomach.
