I have a 2003 Ford Taurus that has suddenly started to lose power. It's not jerking or anything. But whenever you step on the gas it doesn't want to speed up past 45 MPH.

I do know it's not the transmission as I can tell it's shifting alright. It just acts like it doesn't want to get up and go.

I've changed the spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter and still the same thing.

If you haven't already you might replace that coil pack on the top of the engine. You can go to carparts.com and get one for around $34.00

Those coil packs do go bad and cause the symptoms you're describing.

My dad's car was doing the same thing until we replaced the coil pack.
