FCPA or the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act was enacted in 1977 with the move to prohibit the payment of bribes to foreign officials in order to assist in obtaining or retaining business. The FCPA can apply to prohibited conduct anywhere in the world and also extends to publicly traded companies and their employees. Due to its reach and power, everyone considered the act to be an essential component in fighting the many forces of corruption. Thanks to its global jurisdiction, it is widely enforced, and the current trend also points towards increased enforcement actions, fines and imprisonment.
