If the house is vacant you should check on the house at least every few months yourself or have someone come by and check on the house and property at least once per week or once per month depending on how long you're gonna be gone.

If it's a vacant house and nobody is living there then most regular homeowners insurance will not cover the home if something happens to it.

But for insurance purposes insurance companies will usually want you to have your house checked on every few days to at least every few weeks.

It can depend on the insurance company and their own rules.

Most regular homeowners insurance policies will not cover the vacant house.

Also if you do not currently live in the house or are not renting out the house and it's vacant then getting a standard homeowners insurance policy on the vacant house can be hard.

But you can get a specialty policy that will cover the vacant house and your insurance company can get you the vacant house insurance policy.

Normal homeowners insurance policies do not usually cover the cost of damage due to fire, vandalism, liability or other types of claims on an unoccupied or vacant property.

Now if you currently live in the home and the home is only gonna be unoccupied or vacant for 3 months to 6 months then your current homeowners insurance will usually cover the cost of anything that happens to the home while you're away.

But ask your current homeowners insurance company first to see if that is the case because it can vary from insurance company to insurance company.
