There are some elderly people that do prefer to live in a nursing home or assisted living once they get to the point that they need care.

Some elderly people prefer to be in the nursing home around other people their age that they can converse with and have fun with instead of being alone.

But some people hate going into nursing homes and have to be forced into the nursing home for their own good but they have to go at their will.

But sometimes people get so ill and unable to care for themselves that they need assistance to care for themselves and to take care of the bills, clean house etc.

So some people do need to go into nursing homes but I would not want to go into nursing homes as I hate even visiting nursing homes because they are too depressing.

There are a lot of answer options as well as people's opinions. There are those who prefer to age at home. This is true. However, I want to note that so many people choose retirement communities. This is a new option for a compact living of a small number of elderly people with medical and daily care. You can read about it or see the guide-greeting on YouTube. I can’t call it a hospital. This allows you to be more confident in your health and communicates with those who understand you.
