I’ve been doing character design for a while now, mostly fantasy and stylized stuff, and I’m thinking about branching into environments. But I’m not sure if that’s in demand right now. On platforms like Devoted Fusion, do you guys see more jobs going to character artists, prop folks, or maybe VFX/animators? Just curious where the momentum is lately — I’d rather pivot smart than burn time on something oversaturated.

From what I’ve seen, characters and UI/UX art tend to pop up a lot, but environments definitely have their moments, especially when studios are building out world-building decks. I got a gig doing sci-fi vehicle sketches and found it through one of the collections. You can browse what’s trending and which types of artists are featured if you click here. It helped me refocus my portfolio a bit, honestly.

Been scanning different artist profiles lately, and it’s cool how some folks lean super hard into one niche, while others spread across styles and categories. Feels like both paths work, depending on how you present the work and who you’re aiming it at. You definitely start noticing certain patterns once you’ve looked at enough portfolios.
