If your vehicle requires an oil change every 3,000 miles and you don't change the oil every 3,000 miles then your engine will get sludge build up in the engine and also the oil won't be able to lubricate the engine and bearings properly.

As the oil gets too dark colored then it loses it's ability to lubricate the engine properly which then eventually results in engine damage.

However some newer vehicles can go longer than 3,000 miles without any oil change and as long as you change your oil when required then nothing will happen.

But wait too long to change your engine oil then your engine will suffer damage and you could throw a rod or damage the bearings and crankshaft.

With newer vehicles it's not necessary to get an oil change every 3,000 miles.

However with older cars and vehicles it's still necessary to change the oil every 3,000 miles or when it gets dark black color.

When you check your oil and it turns black then it needs to be changed.

Newer vehicles can usually go longer than 3,000 miles without an oil change and some can go as long as 8,000 miles to 10,000 miles.

The oil filter also has to be changed at the same time the oil is changed as well.

For newer vehicles today it's OK to go 4000 miles without an oil change.

Most newer vehicles that are made today can go longer than 4,000 miles between oil changes and some vehicles may be able to go as long as 8,000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes.

Older vehicles that were made before 2005 or so should have an oil change every 3,000 to 4,000 miles.

My newer car I can go 6,000 miles before I change the oil but for my older truck which is a 1992 Chevy Silverado I need to change the oil every 3,000 miles.

The older engines need an oil change sooner but with newer engines they are built to not need an oil change as often.

Just don't go too long without changing your oil and oil filter as it can damage your engine which is more costly than an oil change.

Cars can generally go 5,000 to 7,500 miles before needing an oil change.

Furthermore, if your vehicle uses synthetic oil, you can drive 10,000 or even 15,000 miles between oil changes.
