At 1 year old you should change the 1 year old's diaper every 2 to 3 hours.

Sometimes the 1 year old may need a diaper change sooner and if they poop then change it within 15 minutes or so.

A 1 year old baby goes through 4 to 6 diapers per day depending on how often and how much they pee or how often they poop.

Signs of readiness for potty training include, waking up dry after a nap, keeping a diaper dry for 2 hours or longer, showing interest of other users of the potty, pulling at their wet or dirty diaper, holding their pee in before they pee their diaper and being able to pull up their pants, pull down their pants.

Some kids who are ready to potty train will start holding in their pee and squirm around or do the potty dance while in a diaper.

Then eventually they let go and pee in the diaper.

That is usually a sign they are ready to potty train.

If the child is holding in their pee and they are in a diaper then you should take them to the toilet and remove the diaper and allow them to use the toilet if they will.

Potty training a child too early can lead to toilet accidents because the bladder is really not be strong enough.

And potty training a child too early can also lead to constipation, kidney damage and even urinary tract infections.

Even at 2 years old it really is considered too early to potty train.

A 2 year old still has very little bladder control so they will have pee accidents and so it's best to keep the 2 year old in a diaper until around 3 years of age.

If the 2 year old is ready for potty training then it should only take a few weeks to a month at most for the 2 year old to be fully potty trained.

However if the 2 year old is not ready it can take up to a year or until the 2 year old turns 3 to 3 and 1/2 years old before they are fully potty trained.

If you wait until the 2 year old is at least 3 to 3 and 1/2 years old to potty train then they should be more easy to potty train and it should take only a few days to a few weeks.

2 years old is really too early to potty train.

Although some parents say they have potty trained their 2 year old or even an 18 month old they are not really potty trained.

In reality it's the parents who are trained to take the child to the toilet and if you're dealing with the kid still peeing their pants and pooping their pants and you're having to take the child to the toilet yourself and help them use the toilet then they are not ready.

Most kids are able to be potty trained fully by age 3 to 4 years old.

If you just wait until the kid is 3 to 4 years old to potty train then the potty training should take only a few days to a few weeks at most.

At 2 to 3 years old the kid still does not have full control over their bladder.

So you should just keep the 2 year old in diapers until age 3 to 4 years old and then they will be more ready to use the toilet.

A 2 year old usually needs a diaper change every 3 hours to 4 hours although it can vary from kid to kid.

Not all 2 year olds use the same amount of diapers as each one of them are different in the amount they pee and when they pee.

A 2 year old should have a wet diaper at least every 4 to 6 hours.

However all kids are different and they pee at different times and different amounts.

Not every 2 year old pees the same time or pees the same amount.

Some 2 year olds can go 3 to 4 hours before they pee and have a wet diaper.

As long as your 2 year old is having a wet diaper every 4 to 6 hours they are likely okay.

Just make sure the 2 year old is getting enough to drink and staying hydrated.

Also when it's hotter outside the 2 year old will pee less as they sweat more and so less urine will be outputted which is normal.

Some days my 2 year old son has a wet diaper every 3 hours and sometimes his diaper stays dry for 4 hours and then he pees at once.

So some days he goes through 4 diapers a day and then some days he only needs 3 diapers per day.

During the hotter months he goes through less diapers than in the cooler months even though he's drinking plenty of fluids.

It's normal.

Just check the 2 year olds diaper every few hours to see if it's wet enough and if the 2 year old has not had a wet diaper in 8 hours or longer then they may be dehydrated.

If the diaper is just a little wet then there's no need to change it and you can wait a few more hours between diaper changes.

Not every kid goes through the same amount of diapers which is normal.

As long as they are wetting the diaper at least every 4 to 6 hours then they are likely okay.
