A partially collapsed lung is not a good thing but having a partially collapsed lung is not usually a serious medical emergency.
But if you do have a partially collapsed lung then medical treatment really is needed before your lung decides to fully collapse which then can become life threatening.
A partially collapsed lung can slowly progress into a fully collapsed lung if left untreated so medical treatment is advised before it gets too far into a fully collapsed lung and then requires emergency medical attention.
