The best way to get rid of bed bugs on your own without hiring an exterminator is by using some bed bug fumigator that you set off in your home and leave the home while it's fumigating then after about an hour you open the windows to let fresh air into the home.
If you can afford to though I would recommend just hiring an exterminator to get rid of the bed bugs as it's fairly cheap for them to do so.
