Should a wood stove produce smoke out the chimney?

I want to install a wood burning stove in my house for next winter to save on heating costs but I'm wondering whether I should or not because I'm worried about smoking out my neighbors from the wood stove.

Anyone here have a wood burning stove to heat their home and does the wood burning stove produce a lot of smoke constantly from the chimney or is it just for a little while?

It's very normal for a wood stove to produce some smoke when you first light it and especially if the chimney is cold.

But once the chimney pipe gets hot enough and the fire is properly burning and you're burning properly seasoned non green firewood there should be no visible smoke coming out of the chimney.

When I'm outside looking at my wood stove chimney pipe when the fire is going all I see is the heat radiating out of the pipe and see no smoke.

So your neighbors should not really be affected by any smoke.
