Do doctors receive a commission when they write a patient a prescription for medication?

Yes doctors do get paid money to promote medicine they prescribe. So it's in the doctors interest to prescribe that medicine.

I've seen some people be prescribe medicine that they didn't really need and when they went to another doctor the persons new doctor took them off that medicine.

So yes some doctors will push medicine onto people when they don't need it because that doctor is getting paid to promote that medicine.
