I clean my dishwasher out by just running it empty with standard dishwasher detergent.
I run the dishwasher without dishes once or twice per month to keep it clean.
If something is too big to go down the drain after cleaning such as some food particles I just run my shop vac and suck it out along with any water.
Shop vacs are designed to suck water up so it won't hurt it.
