How long should you wait before asking for a credit limit increase?

To get a credit limit increase you have to have your credit card account open and in good standing for a year or more.

I would wait at least 18 months before asking for a credit limit increase and only ask for a credit limit increase if you're sure you can pay it back.

Never take out more credit than you can reasonably pay back.
