Is wood burning for heat bad for the environment and your health?

Wood burning can be bad for the environment if your wood stove puts out a lot of smoke and particles in the air.

But a properly burning and used wood stove shouldn't smoke much after the fire is going. Natural gas heat, and other heating sources are bad the for environment too.

Wood heat was used for many years before the invention of central heating.
