If you're looking for a used car I would go with the dealership and purchase the car outright through the dealership if you have the cash.
If you have cash money to pay for the car then the dealership might lower the price for a cash sale.
With any car you buy though have it inspected by a mechanic to see if they can spot any problems before you purchase the car.
